carlsbad

i ♥ roadtrips.

i also ♥ vacations.

i also really ♥ making hearts.

anywho... i just got back from a trip down to southern new mexico. we stayed at louie's best friend's family cabin in ruidoso, and made day trips down to roswell and carlsbad. i have a few things to say to each of these places.

dear roswell: you're weird. you are really, really into this whole alien thing. i mean, it's cool and all. i'm into your street lamps and your alien coke machines. i get it. but i'm not all too sure how i feel about this whole ufo landing, alien body thing. i mean, i guess i'm not terribly surprised about the government trying to cover things up. however... i don't know. you do a good job of telling your story (well, the one story, by that one guy) but why is he the only one? i just don't think i believe it. i'm sorry. i want to believe it, i don't want to let you down... but deep down inside i think you might all just be a bunch of crazies trying to capitalize on it. and those pictures you have in the museum... well, i think the "lampshade reflected in window" really says it all.

dear carlsbad: wow! that's a lot of cacti. and you are definitely in the middle of nowhere, aren't you? makes me wonder what kind of idiot was wandering around out there to discover you. the drive out there was long, but beautiful. the road construction on the way up was a real treat though, i tell ya. you couldn't have maybe done that after the park had closed for the day? oh well. it's okay. you're pretty, so i'll forgive you. once we got to the top, the view was spectacular. so was the aroma of guano. not so delicious. down, down, down we went. after approximately 5 minutes i thought i would die of exhaustion. you ain't kidding about that hike. (did i just say ain't?) cold, wet, slimy-looking... i really, REALLY wanted to touch you. but there were so many people around, i just knew i'd get caught. but down there at the bottom, you really are beautiful. i was thinking for a minute that i might like to sleep down there... but then i read the sign that informed me that you are home to mainly insects, including spiders. so i changed my mind. next time i visit, i'm going to need a better camera. all in all, you're looking good for your age. keep it up. oh and p.s., thanks for the elevator. after the hour long hike down, i was fairly certain i'd never make it back up.
