bedroom

so, since we got this new king size bed, my original plan for our bed is out the window because it only comes in queen.

so now i'm undecided. i've always wanted a 4 poster bed, specifically a canopy, but all the king size ones i can find are WAY too expensive for me. my budget is about... oh... $10? i am in love with these from anthropologie:

but they run at about $2000 and $6000. so clearly out of the question.

i think that i will probably end up making a headboard. i like the look of tufted velvet headboards, like the ones from urban outfitters (i tried to put a pic here, but the website won't let me download it), but those only come in full or twin size. plus i know that they are so simple to make, i'd almost rather just make one myself anyway so that i can get the exact color i want.

the main issue with the bedroom is that we are going to have to fit 4 computers in there too, and still have room to breath. my original intention was to buy old desks on craigslist or at garage sales, hopefully two matching ones, but now i'm thinking that maybe i'll just make those too. i realized that the cheapo desk i'm using right now is only about 18 inches deep, and then a keyboard tray that comes out another 6 inches or so. i don't really need the keyboard tray, and louie says he doesn't care either way (although he currently uses his mostly to store dirty dishes). there are some precut pieces at home depot that are supposed to be part of a bookcase kit, but i think would work PERFECTLY for desks. plus that way they'll be real wood, rather than mdf or plywood, so they'll have a nice wood grain. can't decide yet if i want to stain or paint them. or maybe just a wash? i'll have to wait to see what kind of legs i use and what they look like in the room. i think it might be nice to have a little wood in there. i can't wait to see the house at thanksgiving so i can start making actual plans. i'll have to sneak in there with a tape measure when nobody's looking.
