love you to death by melissa senate

genre: chick lit/mystery

recap: {back cover} when did abby foote's life become an episode of law & order?

first, a former boyfriend (who dumped abby in the most humiliating way imaginable) is found murdered the day his engagement is announce. then two other ex-boyfriends report attempts made on their lives right after breaking up with her. coincidence? detective benjamin orr, of the portland police department (and very probing questions and incredibly delicious face), doesn't think so. neither do abby's friends, family, coworkers and other exes- who are suddenly shaking in their shoes. soon everyone is sucking up to her as though the abby they know and supposedly love to death is capable of poisoning their drinks...

is someone trying to frame her? who? and why? she has to find out fast. because by-the-book ben is bound to break her heart. which makes him next on someone's list...

review: it only took me a day to read this, not even a full 24 hours. as much as i don't think i like mysteries, this was pretty good. i wanted to read it after my last melissa senate book, and also because i remember reading her books when i first discovered red dress ink books about 10 years ago. the whole being-accused-of-and-investigated-for something i absolutely didn't do thing struck home for obviously hit very close to home, and brought back some pretty sharp and painful memories. not that those memories are ever very far from my mind. i am more than a little disappointed that the promised sequel doesn't exist, though. maybe she'll write one in the future?
