the divine circle of ladies making mischief by dolores stewart riccio

genre: fiction/borderline chick lit/ mystery

recap: {back cover} whos says you have to act your age? certainly not the women of "the circle"- five kindred souls whose steadfast friendship is as entertaining as it is fulfilling; five women who are shaking things up in the idyllic new england town of plymouth, massachussetts.

there's outspoken, outrageous cass, whose new love life is thriving right along with her herbal products business; lovable heather, who never met a no-kill animal sanctuary she didn't want to champion with her sizable bank account; phillipa, a poet with a wicked smile and a wit to match; deidre, an energetic mom who also just happens to make anatomically correct dolls; and fiona, a former flower child-turned-local librarian.

when these five get together, anything can happen - and it usually does. for these bright, warm, adventurous women also seem to be a magnet for the strange, wild, and dangerous. and where they go, mischief is sure to follow...

review: well, the back cover really does not describe the book. first of all, they're not just a circle of friends, they're wiccans. which is fine, i guess. actually kind of interesting. also phillipa is not a poet (or at least not in this book?), she's a cookbook author. deidre is hardly even in the book. it's mostly about crime-fighting using their clairvoyant powers. it would have been nice to know that upfront, because i probably wouldn't have chosen it. also, it's third in a series, which also would have turned me off because i would rather have started from the beginning. but whatever. what can you expect from a clearance bin book? i'd probably read more from the series if i found more in the clearance bin, but it wouldn't be my first choice. still, it was a fast, moderately funny read.
